The next upgrade after Mac OS X Snow Leopard (version 10.6) is Mac OS X Lion, which is version 10.7. Released in July 2011, Lion introduced several new features, including natural scrolling, a new Launchpad interface, and full-screen app support. It marked a significant shift towards features found in iOS, enhancing the overall user experience on Macs.
A MacBook will run Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). If the MacBook is currently running 10.5 (Leopard) a copy of Snow Leopard will need to be purchased.
Snow Leopard
Snow Leopard is an upgrade to Leopard and so you will need Leopard installed on your Mac before installing Snow Leopard. For Mac computers with an Intel processor running Tiger you will need to purchase the box set that includes iLife 09 and iWork. (See links below)
Providing the Mac running Tiger has an Intel processor then the Snow Leopard upgrade will work.
a leopard of course they are the 2nd fastest runners next to cheetahs.
To upgrade from Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) to !0.5 (Leopard) you will need to purchase a copy of Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) which costs around $190. However if you have a recent Mac with an Intel processor you can upgrade from 10.4 directly to 10.6 (Snow Leopard) at the $29 upgrade price.
Yes, you can upgrade from Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6) to OS X Mavericks (10.9). However, you'll need to first ensure that your Mac meets the hardware requirements for Mavericks. Additionally, it is recommended to update to at least OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 before proceeding with the Mavericks upgrade for a smoother transition. Once those conditions are met, you can download Mavericks from the Mac App Store and install it.
Although technically an upgrade to Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5) the Snow Leopard (10.6) disc does have a full installer and so can install the software onto a blank formatted disc with no existing OS.
a snow leopard is the lightest leopard
To upgrade from Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) you need to buy a copy of Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). Snow Leopard only works with Macs with an Intel processor; Macs with PPC processors (G4 or G5) can only go up to Leopard.
You have Leopard which is (10.5.8). One of the requirements for installing Lion is that you already have Snow Leopard (OSx 10.6) or later installed. The main reason is that Lion is available only via the Mac App Store, and the Mac App Store debuted in Mac OSx Snow Leopard (10.6.6). In other words, you need Snow Leopard just to purchase and download Lion. So you are going to have to purchase and install Snow Leopard before you can proceed to purchase and install Lion. If you bought your Mac at a retail store then go back and ask them for a free updrade to Snow Leopard. They may just give it to you for free if you agree to purchase Lion which should cost you around $20. Does not hurt to ask. If you purchased it online then contact Apple for the upgrade to Snow Leopard.
Likely never. Snow Leopard is a $29 upgrade to Leopard, but it requires a Mac with an Intel processor (newer than 2005) and 1 GB of RAM.
