Obviously all mammals respire in the same general manner. The mammalian lungs provide a place where carbon dioxide can be expelled and oxygen can be absorbed.

The question I think you are referring to is how does a giraffe move all that air through such a long neck?

Think of the human respiratory system as being composed of two separate areas with two separate functions. The normal breath consists of about 500cc of air. Or half a liter.

1) Conducting zone - includes the nose, mouth, pharynx, trachea and large bronchi in the lungs. These parts of the system just move air, they don't exchange oxygen for carbon dioxide. This is dead space. Humans have about 150cc of dead space that is not involved in oxygen exchange. Giraffes have a much larger dead space due to their long necks.

2) Respiratory zone - includes the microscopic regions of the lung, especially the alveoli. This is where the magic happens. Gas exchange of oxygen for carbon dioxide. Of that initial 500cc, about 350cc gets to this level of the lung.

So, random fact time - a giraffe breathes in about 4000cc of air with each breath at a rate of about 6 breaths per minute. Slow, deep breaths, with large volume make it work for a giraffe.

We breath in 500cc of air about 12-15 breaths per minute.

A giraffe breathes the same way that we breathe. The lungs expand and contract, drawing in air and expelling it, through a pathway that leads from the nostrils through the windpipe (technically the trachea) and to the lungs. Although the giraffe has the longest neck of any animal, its neck functions the same way shorter necks do.
