The IUCN Red List has the Polar Bear listed as "vulnerable" with the population decreasing. While the US Fish and Wildlife Services, Endangered Species List has the Polar Bear listed as "threatened". Also The International Agreement on the Conservation of Polar Bears was signed to protect the Polar Bears from ruthless hunting tactics and the interruption, and disturbance of breeding dens. Of the 19 subpopulations of the Polar Bear, five are now declining, five are stable, two are increasing, but the remaining seven, are without sufficient data to come to any conclusion as to the population trend. Without this vital information, making any long term decision for the future of the Polar Bear is difficult at best and playing with fire in the worst conditions.
