There are a lot of dogs are that calm and nice. I have a lab that was a ball of energy when she was younger, but she has slowed down a lot since then. If you want a calm animal, I would suggest trying to adopt an adult dog past 5 years old from the pound. These dogs will be a lot calmer and have less energy to spend, but will still be loving and caring, especially since you are the one who got him out of that place.
