What kind of poison will get rid of a groundhog?

There are many items on the market to kill groundhog including trapping and releasing them. I'd rather kill them outright ... after years of dealing with them, they have destroyed and chewed through my cedar fence, they destroy everything in the yard, I have a huge backyard and I no longer plant ANYTHING...these animals eat flowers, vegetables all of it...I too love animals, don't get me wrong but when groundhogs are destroying my property you better believe it's a problem...there are holes in my yard and my dogs have fallen in...I have used the poison smoke which works extremely well for the young groundhogs but you must do it at night or early evening when they are all underground enjoying a nap. I was able to kill all the young groundhogs. The adults are tough. It looks like I will be trapping those because the poison hasn't worked and besides I have dogs. I know some of you are besides yourself but unless you live in a hut with no running water and electricity and strictly eat plants and wash your hair with just water I don't want to hear it...we ALL leave a carbon footprint behind and pests are a nuisance. I assume you won't kill roaches either?

The most commonly used groundhog poison is a carbon monoxide generating smoke bomb that is placed in the hole, lit, then the hole is buried to keep the gas in.

Another poison gas used is methyl bromide. Peanuts coated with strychnine are also common.

But there are groundhog repellents (most use dried predator urine) without poison that will remove them too, if you don't really want to kill them. There are also baits that can be used to capture the groundhogs in live traps for removal.
