Calming down a horse can be very difficult especially depending on the temperament of the horse. If my horse starts bucking i turn him in a really tight circle, and try and get his head of the ground. I do this because when you turn the horse it makes the horse off balance and makes it hard for the horse to buck or rear. Keeping the horses head high makes it harder for the horse to buck. If the situation becomes dangerous its best to do a flying dismount. This is when the rider jumps off the horse while it is moving. To do this as safe as possible take both feet out of the stirrups, drop the reins, swing your leg over and push away from the horse. If possible try and grab the reins when pushing off, but if you cant dont worry just get away. Eventually the horse will stop and you can go get him.
