Kentucky Black Bears don't hibernate. At least not the ones in SE Kentucky. They do tend to get into a state of torpor. Kentucky Bears reduce their range in winter and males tend to roam throughout the year. The question should be what drives bears to hibernate. FOOD! Or the lack thereof. As long as bears can find enough, they will avoid hibernation.
Sows will go to den because of the cubs or to conserve energy to bear young. Since right now the litter size is from 2 to 5 cubs, Kentucky bears are well fed. If bears do go to den, the most likely time would be at the end of December or in January (boars or males). Sows go to Den by early December. They will avoid human food or scraps in this last two weeks and feed on mast (nuts) and other food high in the vitamins and nutrition they need for hibernation.
Last year in 2010 the third week of December in about four inches of snow, I found tracks of a young bear (four inches wide) in the snow. The week before I found bear sign from bears actively feeding on red acorns (droppings, claw marks on trees). So this was the middle of December and beyond and Kentucky bears were still active.
they go into hibernation for the entire winter which is 3 months
Ah, the animal that sleeps for 6 months is the lovely bear, my friend. They enter a deep slumber called hibernation during the winter months when food is scarce. It's a beautiful way for them to conserve energy and stay cozy until spring arrives.
In the winter bears go through hibernation. The bear was hungry and ill-tempered after it's long hibernation.
When bears go to sleep in the winter, it is called Hibernation. Squirrels, birds, and other animals who dislike the cold do the same thing.
During cold winter months amphibians go into Hibernation.
The fat cells provide nutrition to the bear while in hibernation. They try to gain as much weight as possible so they will go into hibernation with plenty of fat cells. They come out of hibernation with less weight and are ravenously hungry when they wake up.
Bears do not truly hibernate but do go into a torpor (sleep) during colder months when food is scarce. However, it is not a true hibernation and the bears can quickly awaken if disturbed. Yes, they are a living thing and only are sleeping.
when they are being attack or when they want to hibernate thats what they do
After hibernation, chipmunks go to find love, then get ready for next hibernation.
The bear when asleep the stomach eats the fat an the muscle of the bear so it can go months with out food.
