After watching Planet Earth Live on BBC Iplayer, I have to say probably yes because they caught footage of a pod of killer whales attacking a grey whale calf for food and then some humpback whales (seven were in the area in the end I think) tried to intervene and prevent the kill, although unsuccessful it is said that they were distraught by the kill making numerous cries in sadness. The humpback whales also the continued to follow the killer whales to possibly prevent them from doing that again!
