Chispa was Pascual Duarte's hunting dog. It is an important part in the book if you are looking at the violent episodes of Pascual. He shoots his beloved dog because he is looking at him in way that makes Pascual uneasy.

The event with Chispa took place at an odd time in the story which leads to believe that Pascual was narrating his story out of order.
