Probably not. But I read a book in my school library about gerbils and the author of it said that one of his friends put a gerbil and a mouse together in a cage and they worked out OK.

If you have a healthy gerbil who lives in a clean cage/tank then you will not die if you put their head in your mouth. On the contrary it will be very unsanitary to do so considering they burrow/dig where they poop/urinate and clean themselves also gerbils are prone to mites.
