A polar bear makes sounds like an angry elephant. ____ Polar bears make a number of different sounds. When it's angry it makes a low growl when it wants to warn something off. They will also hiss and snort when angry and challenging another bear. When they are angry they make roaring sounds and growl. Their roar does in fact sound like an elephant's roar. Mother polar bears have a different set of sounds when communicating with their cubs - they will let out a low growl when disciplining their young. They'll also cuff their cubs with a big paw to let them know they've done something wrong. If the bear is in distress and upset it makes chuffing sounds.
Adults in the "Peanuts" cartoon were represented by sounds from a trombone .
