at night because they have a sort of night vision (as all cats do. . . like when you shine a light on their eyes when its dark and they glow kinda. . . yeah that's their night vision) and they hunt at night because they can easily see a fox or bunny eating or venturing and they cant see in the dark so they hunt at night. . . if they have a chance to do it in the day they will. . . like, if a prairie dog is below them they will obviously jump out the the tree and have a snack lol
