What to do if a raccoon attacks you?

Nothing. They won't attack you and generally will waddle away. They are fun to watch if you get a chance. Just sit there and watch it. Don't try to catch it or pet it or feed it. They do have long claws, nails, and teeth and they are a wild animal.

Make sure that no one gets near it. Whether it's a baby or an aged raccoon, it's still a raccoon, and it still is quite possible to carry rabies or a lot of other diseases. Raccoons are very cute, but just make sure to watch it from a distance. Raccoons usually won't try to attack you or your house. All they are looking for is food. If you want, you can feed it. But whatever you do, don't touch it. Especially don't even think about hand feeding the raccoon. I would suggest putting bowls of dog or cat food out in your yard and waiting for it to come by and eat it late at night. Raccoons aren't really a danger to anyone but if you are going to feed it make sure you make the neighbors aware. They might not want a raccoon coming around as much as you might.

Raccoons are shy and if it saw you it would probably back away and watch you...then walk away. I feed them at night when they come onto the deck. They love vanilla cookies and unsalted peanuts. They do drink out of the birdbath on the deck after they eat. There is a pair that visit around midnight, and are possibly brother and sister. The two do not run off when I open the window to hand the food out. I am carefull, but they are use to seeing me, and are quite friendly. They like apple slices, any kind of cookie, as long as it's not chocolate...(they will pass those by) ......picky little quy's!!!!!. They are fun to watch and make nice midnight visitors.

Add: Raccoons that are not afraid of you and do not run away could be rabid. It is not a good idea to try to approach them. Where I live, a little girl was bitten by a rabid raccoon that just ran up to her and had no fear of her.

Do not provide enticements for raccoons to visit your yard such as unsecured trash bins or pet food. If you have raccoons visiting your yard there is evidently something there that is an attraction to them, such as a garden or other food sources. Raccoons can be more than pests, they can carry parasites that can be deadly to humans and are passed on through their feces. Raccoons can also carry rabies and other diseases that can be transmitted to humans.

Healthy raccoons will avoid human confrontation unless threatened. Sometimes a rabid raccoon will threaten or confront a human. If that does happen, keep your cool and slowly back away. Call animal control to report the encounter so they can capture and test the animal for rabies.

In country trap it in a live trap, tuna is good bait, catch it and haul it away

If you're not a professional then call an exterminator or run! Raccoons can carry rabies and other diseases, and they do bite people.

Go to the doctor. I have been around a lot of raccoons while camping and they won't attack unless cornered. They would rather run/hide.
