The first man-made vehicle purpose built to reach space was Sputnik 1 launched on an R-7 rocket by the USSR on October 4 1957. Prior to this, a German V2 rocket had reached the arbitrary limit we call 'space' - 62 miles - by mistake.
Spacecraft do not and cannot 'land' in space.
The first winged spacecraft was the Space Shuttle, developed and operated by NASA. The Space Shuttle made its first orbital flight in 1981 and was used for various missions, including transporting astronauts to and from the International Space Station.
The mariner spacecraft explored Mercury, Mars, and Venus. The first successful space probe and first spacecraft visit to a planet was Mariner 2.
The name of the first American satellite in space was called Explorer 1.

The Space Shuttle
Some of the Russian space crafts are Soyuz, Progress, and Vostok. Soyuz is used for crewed missions to the International Space Station, Progress is an unmanned cargo spacecraft, and Vostok was the spacecraft that carried the first human, Yuri Gagarin, into space.
