All poodles were used for hunting at one time and through breeding came the Toy Poodle. Generally these little dogs are easy to care for and just the right size the owner may want. Don't EVER underestimate a small dog because they can go up your leg like a rusty can opener if they feel their owner or their property is in danger.

Commonly a Toy Poodle is used for a family pet, therapy dog, obedience (they are highly intelligent dogs) and show dogs. They were originally used as hunting dogs, water retrieving truffles for roots of oak trees. Poodles are excellent swimmers by the way. Poodles are also very fast runners. Toy poodles are also used in the circus because toy poodles are very sure footed and love to jump and walk on their hind feet.
