Its not necessarily the chickpeas in hummus that would cause a problem but whats added to them that could cause all sorts of problems. Too much garlic could cause dogs digestive problems, some is ok, but too much and it could be a problem. The amount of digested food and size of the dog also play a huge factor in what happens... a tablespoon of hummus for a Bloodhound is nothing, a tablespoon for a mini-pin or mini-chihuahua could be stomach upset, and bad bowels (depending on garlic content could be worse).
