I have your answer! My cat is the result of a brown and black Persian dad and a Japanese Bobtail calico mom. The result is a cat with a round kitten like head, Persian round eyes and a bobtail that curls to form the pom pom tail tip. He is sooooo beautiful that people call him a designer bobcat. His coloring is gold with a black marbled tabby pattern with a white gotee. His looks have not changed since he was a kitten, only that he is bigger. He looks like a big kitten and has the gentle, playful nature of a real laid back baby. I find him sleeping on his back with his paws like little flippers. He gets kissed a million times a day! I would love to have another cat like this!

The answer is Felis catus. All breeds of domestic cat, including the Japanese Bobtail, have the same scientific name.
The Japanese Bobtail gets its breed name from its distinctive short, "bobbed" tail, which resembles a pom-pom. This trait is a natural genetic mutation and distinguishes the breed from other cats. The name reflects both its country of origin, Japan, where it has been revered in culture and folklore, and the unique characteristic of its tail. Historically, these cats were often associated with good fortune and were featured in traditional Japanese art.

The most popular cat in Japan is the Japanese Bobtail, known for its distinctive short, pom-pom-like tail. This breed is often associated with good fortune and is featured in traditional Japanese folklore and art, particularly in the famous "Maneki-neko" or "beckoning cat" figurines. The Japanese Bobtail is friendly, social, and playful, making it a beloved companion in Japanese households. Its unique appearance and cultural significance contribute to its popularity.
An American Bobtail is a short-haired breed of domestic cat originating in the United States, with a significant genetic mutation which resulted in a characteristically short tail.
