Basenji dogs are considered fairly rare in the US compared to other breeds. They are not as commonly seen as some popular breeds like Labrador Retrievers or German Shepherds, but there are still breeders and enthusiasts who work to promote and preserve the Basenji breed in the country.
the basenji - as opposed to actual barking, it makes a more yodeling sound.
There are many more than eight pure breed dogs in existence today. Eight of the most popular pure breed dogs in the world are the Afghan, Boston Terrier, Schipperke, Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Bearded Collie, Basenji, Mastiff, and Doberman Pinscher.
I think the Basenji is named for the Egyptian god of dogs and a Basenji's head looks like the god's face.
A Basenji is quite independent and also quite picky. In ways the Basenji is also cat-like in the body anatomy.
the dog breeds that are best are the ones that have short hair.... such as: NO MIXES: Australian Cattle Dog Australian Kelpie Basenji Basset Hound Beagle Bloodhound Boston Terrier Boxer Bulldog Chesapeake Bay Retriever Chihuahua Dachshund Dalmatian Doberman Pinscher Foxhound French Bulldog German Shepherd Great Dane Greyhound Jack Russell Terrier Labrador Retriever Miniature Pinscher Pointer Pug Rottweiler Shiba Inu Toy Fox Terrier Weimaraner Welsh Corgi Whippet
they are protective and small they are also a mix of a basenji and a chiuaua but these breeds are rare
The Basenji didn't have any dogs bred to make it.
the Saluki and Basenji
I have a Labrador and she never Barker's, and next door to use they have a labrador/retriever and he Barker's all of the time. my dog in stead of barking she crys but only we she wants something e.g. food, water, to go to the loo. also they are very very good with children but they do eat Any thing they can get there hands on e.g. sock's, slipper's, shoes, sweet rapers and Any thing they can find. Basenji don't bark, but it does make other sounds such as a howl, yodel, growl and a crow. Malemute make sort of a cry or yowl Also the New Guinea Singing dog, but that breed has its own peculiarities. They are just one notch from canine origin, and it's a very small notch.
The basenji is the only dog that can not bark.
