Can they - yes, but puppies should stay with mom and the litter until 8 weeks of age. Usually as they start on solid foods, mom comes around less and less but it is important to allow them the full 8 weeks or longer to be together. This is a critical learning stage for the puppies to develop dog social skills that will aid them later in life. It is a proven fact that puppies taken earlier have a higher percentage of developing behaviorial issues as they grow up.

You may want to wait some time after your dog gives birth. The mother and her puppies have to become acclimated. After two days or so, the puppies can be left on their own for awhile. If your dog is not unduly stressed by baths, you can clean her up then. You might want to consider just some localized sponging in the meantime. Be sure not to leave any soap behind, as this can affect the nursing puppies.Um yes you can just make sure you let the pups be in a box with blankets in it to keep the pups feeling warm and safe. Maybe when you give the dog a bath let the pups in the box or whatever be near the mom so she knows there safe.
the mom get pretective if the puppies are new born the puppies MUST be with there mother for 8 weeks after they can be taken home to some one. if after the puppie is taken to there new home and it misses there mom or the people around it dont worry it will eventually forget and love its new home do not let the father or any other animal around the mom and the puppie because the mom is so pertective and will snap not at the people though
