The first Westerner who learned of the Giant Panda was in 1869 by a French missionary Armad David who had received a panda skin from a hunter on March 11, 1869.
Now the first Westerner known to have seen one was a German zoologist named Hugo Weigold who had purchased a cub in 1916.
