Tigers are solitary animals. This means that they do not hunt in packs like lions do. Since they hunt and eat alone, and unless they're ta mother, the tiger that hunts is the one that eats first- if that makes sense.

Because the Smilodon is extinct, we have to look at certain morphological markers to attempt to answer behavior patterns. There is no current evidence to support that they were primarily nocturnal or diurnal predators (or even if they were solitary or social creatures). One could, in comparison to today's cats, logically assume that the Smilodon could easily feed during the day or night as its vision was, like most cats, highly adapted to nocturnal conditions.

Tigers are pure carnivores. They prefer hunting large ungulates such as chital, sambar, gaur, and to a small extent also barasingha, water buffalo, nilgai, serow and takin. Among the medium-sized prey species they frequently kill wild boar, and occasionally hog deer, muntjac and Gray langur. Small prey species such as porcupines, hares and peafowl are also hunted and form a very small part in their diet. Sometimes, they also prey on domestic livestock too that wander off into the jungles

They stay hidden and move near the unsuspecting prey. Once they are near enough, they pounce and take the prey down. They go for the throat and strangulate their prey.
