They start going into heat at around 6 months, but I would suggest after one years... perhaps 1 1/2 or 2 years old would be an ideal age. But you could breed them at 3 or 4 without problems.

Is a White Shepherd still a German Shepherd?

Yes...and no. There are purebred, registered German Shepherds who happen to be white. However, under the AKC they are disqualified for showing in the breed ring. This led to a movement to create a separate breed called the White Shepherd (as opposed to the white German Shepherd) under the UKC (United Kennel Club). There was a period of time when a registered white German Shepherd could compete under either breed, but I believe they are now considered two separate breeds. Owners of white German Shepherds had to choose which they wanted their dog to be. Part of the reason for this split is not just about color. On average, White Shepherds have more of a traditional look than modern AKC show German Shepherds. White Shepherds have level backs and are not over angulated, going back to what the German Shepherd was in the 60's and 70's.

How tall can a German Shephed get?

I've had two German Shepherds for companions in my entire life, and I've seen countless other adult German Shepherds. One of my neighbors bred German Shepherds. Typically, a German Shepherd should be between 2-3 feet tall from paw to head standing on all fours. Standing on their hind legs (which no German Shepherd should do for prolonged amounts of time, because of hip joint problems the origin of which is hidden somewhere in their breeding, keep this in mind whilst training a German Shepherd to do certain tricks), they can be between 3-4 feet tall. This is merely a rough estimation, but I hope it helped.

When is the best time to breed an adult German Shepard?

Dogs come into season, or heat, once every six months for 10-14 days. This is the only time she will be able to mate and become pregnant. As of the best age, your bitch should be about three years old - although it is possible to breed from her after she has had two seasons but this is not recommended.
