They do not "need" to be docked, but it has evolved that it is a standard with AKC, so if you show your dog, it's tail must be docked.
Actually, we humans have overlooked a very important factor for dogs when we insist on docking tails.....they use them for communication.
For instance, a dog will hold his tail very high when approaching another dog he wants to look superior to............just as a submissive dog will bow down low.
Hi, in the UK it is now illegal to have any dogs tails cut unless you can prove that it is a working dog.You also cannot show a dog with a docked tail-unless it is a "fun" show,so the total opposite from usa! The tails were originally docked to prevent damage caused during course of them working (terriers/spaniels).The docking has to be done on the puppy before it reaches 5 days old!
If the father of the pups was a husky. Then yes that could happen.
between 5 and 6 pups
i have a 9 week old wire haired jrt with a very curly tail, almost like a Japanese akita tail haha, i also have a 5 month old smooth haired jrt with a straight tail, so in my opinion i think it just depends on the pups lol and the breeding
Like most dogs a Jack Russell bitch will deliver her pups about 63 days after copulation.
It should not be done purposely, but if it did happen, the female Jack Russell would have to have a C-section to be able to have the pups ... they would be too big to birth naturally. It would also be dangerous for her to be pregnant with pups of a much larger dog, but if she were to get pregnant with only a few instead of several, she might be OK. The pups would be medium-sized dogs ... not as small at the JR, and not as large as the collie. Anyway, because of the danger involved to the mother and subsequent pups, purposeful breeding between these two should never be done.
Jacks usually get pretty big all of my jack have needed C sections. They usually have anywhere from 2 to 8 pups.
It depends on how the mother is, If she is happy with you being with her and near them she should be happy with you petting her and them but you should not take them away from her or out of her sight. If she is protective of them do not intrude, wait a few days and she will be happier, whatever you do don't distress her.
Some dog breeds that have naturally stubby tails include the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Jack Russell Terrier, and the French Bulldog. However, some breeds such as the Australian Shepherd or the Boxer may also have their tails docked for various reasons.
Jack Russells usally have 4-8 pups, depending on the age and somtimes size of the jack, a smaller jack can have as little as 3 but can still have a much as 8. If the dog is still young i.e 1-1/2 then they might have 3 but somtimes can still have a much as 8.
six week old pups still rely on there mothers for food but, if something happened to the mother dog and she is no longer present you can buy special pet formula for pups 8 weeks and younger. Then at the age of about 8 weeks you can start giving them soft puppy food.
They start getting contractions and then PUSH! and POP! the pups fly out their ears with wings attatched to the pups tails
