Rabbits have always been loved for their fluffy bodies and cute looks. These small mammals belong to the order Lagomorpha and are found across the globe. There are around eight genera in this order that consists of numerous species and subspecies. Sylvilagus is one of the eight genera in the order Lagomorpha. There are around sixteen species of rabbits in this genus. The most commonly found among them is Sylvilagus floridanus or eastern cottontail rabbit. As seen in most of the members of the genus Sylvilagus, eastern cottontail rabbits too sport a fluffy cotton-like tail and hence the name. These rabbits are commonly found across North America. Unlike most of the other rabbits, eastern cottontails do not make burrows. They make shallow nests above the ground, as in case of hares. But, they differ from hares in other aspects.
