Bulldog is a native of British Isles, and believed to be descended from the ancient Asiatic mastiff during 13th century. This dog may have derived its name from its use in bull baiting. Animal baiting became illegal in England in 1835, and then these working bulldogs were crossed with pugs to produce a nonaggressive, gentle and affectionate family pet known as English Bulldog.
