Grizzly bears , a subspecies of the brown bear, which typically live inland and are

smaller than coastal browns because there is less food available to them, are omnivorous and will eat just about anything they come across. they are oppourtunistic predators and will hunt and kill just about anything but usually lack the sustained speed to take healthy adult prey. they frequently eat carrion and will muscle wolves and cougars off of their kills. when there isn't meat available they eat insects and berries as well as sedge grasses which are rich in protein. they have to intake a massive amount of calories not only because of their size and active nature but because they hibernate for up to five months per year. a grizzly who doesn't eat enough in the summer and fall will not make it to spring. hope that helps
