They come from South America. Don't read the following if you don't think you can handle this: They eat them a lot. Many South American countries recognize guinea pigs as livestock and eat millions of them each year. They even try to improve the quality of the meat. The U.K. has often campainged against this. They are related to the Capybara. They are about the size of beavers. They too are often eaten, but not mainly by people. They are also related to Maras, which look like a cross between a kangaroo and rabbit!! And they are related to and look very similar to Pacas and Cavias. In_Correct
