Where do hippos go in the winter?

Hippos live in a climate that does not have much of a climate change. They don't need to go or do anything special during the winter.

(Also I am sure that if someday the areas they live in turn really cold, their fat will keep them warm.)

In their natural habitat, the tropics, there is no winter season. Therefore your question is meaningless.

However captive Elephants in zoos (in countries where there are winters) survive the winter season with the help of the zoo keepers who provide them with shelter, warmth and food.
