A prairie dog's "warning sound" sounds similar to a dogs bark, hence prairie (grasslands) dog (their warning bark)... They are burrowing rodents that carry the plague and can pass it on to humans (especially children)... Although, it is said that approx. 76 species of mammals carry they plague... Always protect yourself around wild animals, no matter how cute they may seem...
