Mange is a nasty skin disease caused by small mites causing intense irritation for the dog who rubs and scratches to alleviate the itch. It causes fur to fall out and dogs with mange often present with large bald patches and thickened skin around the rump area. This disease is sometimes communicable to humans so it is important to get your dog checked out sooner rather than later, especially as it causes the dog a lot of misery. Easily treated with medicated washes and creams from your vet.
