Though they originated in Germany in 1899, they can now be found all over the world. The German Shepherd dog, like any purebred dog, is genetically engineered and therefore is not found naturally in the wild.

Because of their thick double coat, they do better in cooler climates but most like a cool shaded area but in hot weather according to Cesar Millan The Dog Whisperer who claimed that's where that specific breed always went and thrived in.
