Many dogs are not classified as hounds. Hounds is one of the few categorizations of dogs. Others are the toy breed, utility, sporting, terrier and working class breed. Hound focused on dogs who were initially use as a hunting companion. They have higher sense of tracking ability and I meant not just heightened smell but some developed better sights and hearings.
Those not in the hound groups some have similar traits as the hound and some don't. Toy are small but energetic breeds (Maltese and Papilion), sporting (Retriever and Spaniel) are generally athletic dogs, working are dogs who are trained to do intensive works (Shetland Sheepdog and Husky), terrier are dogs specialized in catching small animals (Scottish Terrier and Bull Terrier) and utility or non-sporting are dogs who don't fit into the other categories (Shih Tzu and Poodle)
