Rudolph the Red-Nosed-Reindeer is a story written by Robert L. May for Montgomery Ward department stores. In the original story, Rudolph didn't even grow up in the "North Pole." He grew up in an "ordinary" reindeer village, born to regular reindeer. Santa happened upon Rudolph one foggy night, while delivering presents to his house. He asked Rudolph to guide his sleigh, and that's when it all began. Now, in the movie, Donner is his father, but that is not how it is in the actual book.
