A cell with two copies of each chromosome is called a diploid cell.
A cell with one copy is called a haploid cell.
The DNA of the Eukaryotic cell is sometimes seen in chromosome form because of the simplicity of the cell. The more complex the organism, the less likely the DNA will be seen in chromosome form.
Eukaryotic Cells.
In eukaryotic cells the chromosomes are located in the nucleus.

In eukaryotic Cells, the nucleus houses the Dna.
A eukaryotic plant cell.

Eukaryotic cells
Bacteria typically have a single, circular chromosome located in the nucleoid region of the cell. This chromosome contains the genetic material necessary for the bacterium to survive and reproduce. It is distinct from the linear chromosomes found in eukaryotic organisms.

For a eukaryotic cell to have only one chromosome it must be a sex cell or a genome in an organism that normally only has 2 chromosomes per cell. I'm not sure if this is exactly what you mean...
The nucleus is what contains the DNA of a eukaryotic cell. It is usually in the center of the cell, but not always. It is below the large central vacuole in some plant cells.
