Dolphins are the present day descendants of a group animals of the Artiodactyl order. They left their life on land roughly fifty million years ago in the Eocene epoch to become dolphins through evolution. Other members of this same group stayed on land and became today's pigs, peccaries, hippopotami, camels, deer, giraffes, antelopes, sheep, goats, and cattle.
