Why did horses become pets?

horses are both pets and companions as they can be companions for other animals. The only problem is when they are a companion to other animals, when they get separated they tend to stress out.

They can also be considered livestock and work animals. They are necessities for ranchers to herd their cattle.

yes....some farm animals make very good pets, outside pets but pets none the less. Goats are sweet and loveable when raised young and handled gently as well as sheep. Chickens can be pets and even cows, a horse is a common pet right? Pigs are smart and very affectionate when raised from young but are not great pets in a small city dwelling unless nutered and well trained. They are much happier and better off in the country and outdoors.

Well, after machinery took over horses jobs, there were still people who loved horses, so while they were no longer of much use, they could still be nice pets, simply there for the owner's enjoyment.

There are many opinions on this matter, however it is not totally cut and dry as to yes or no. The fact is that modern domesticated horses would have a very hard time surviving in the wild due to health issues, and lack of space to properly graze. Even feral horses like the Mustang and Brumby have a hard time finding food. If all domesticated horses were released into the wild it would cause severe ecological damage that may not be repairable.

The damage they would cause would lead to them starving to death from lack of available food, and eventually a lack of water as well.

I think you hoses should be left in the wild because they should be able to roam freely and not be keept fenced on a farm or at a home.
