Dogs are strange creatures on occasion, but this can be explained because they are much like humans. Both have certain levels of hormones that induce growth and ultimately maturity. As dogs reach a certain age those hormones cause them mature in some ways and also cause them to have strange urges. This is because when they reach maturity they are ready to dedicate to "the circle of life." As cheesy as it might sound this is true. Animals have both survival and reproductive instincts that aid their security and help their offspring to thrive. Reproduction helps to ensure variety and that their family line is not lost. This said it may seem absurd when dogs do this. If this happens make sure to scold them firmly. If you want to bred that is one thing, but if this is a behavior you dislike make sure the animal sees your disapproval.
