Actually they do sleep, mostly throughout the day and are sometimes awake when its around nighttime. That's why cats live long years since they sleep a great portion of their lives. :L
I believe that geckos have a very similar sleeping patterns to cats. Some can sleep at night some can sleep during the day, some seem to always sleep and some seem to never sleep. I find that geckos are use to being handled at certain times, so if you play with your gecko during the day that is when the gecko will be routinely active.
