It will get all over them unless they lift their legs to pee. More importantly, if it gets on the dog it will not "hit the spot" many canines urinate to display territory and show dominance. If it is on their leg- it does no good.
I was reading on this today. What I found is that dogs do mark their territory as the previous answer indicates, but they lift their leg higher in order to get the urine just a little higher to appear as though that dog is bigger (more status) the he really has. Is it true? I don't know, but it sounds plausible.
No. Male horses (geldings and stallions) will stretch out to urinate. Mares (females) spread their hind legs and squat somewhat.
Yes, this is a normal behaviour in adult male dogs. Sometimes male dogs that were neutered too early do not raise their leg to urinate, however.
Male dogs lift their leg so they can direct their urine to mark their territory. They will typically urinate on the side of a post, tree or whatever is available for them to leave their mark on.
The dog just needs your help to get him on to some grass and lay it down it will urinate, but if it doesnt then you should see a vet about that problem.
Male foxes do not squat to urinate; instead, they typically stand while lifting one leg. This behavior allows them to mark their territory more effectively by directing their urine onto vertical surfaces. By doing so, they communicate their presence to other foxes and potential mates.
Hint look at the bottom of the female dog i am just saying and also female dogs sit down when they use the restroom male dogs lift up there leg. i know this because i have two dogs a male and female.
Well, young male dogs usually find a place, stand, lean forward a little bit (urine falls on the ground) until they have finished emptying their bladder. As male dogs become older, after one years old about, they still lean forward a little but start to lift one hind leg. If you take them for a walk they will mark many things in their pathway. Sometimes it's a little comical.
My dog is a 10 year old male and still hasn't cocked his leg and sometimes dogs never do learn to cock their legs.
Urination in the dog world is a sign of dominance or possession. When a dog lifts its leg on something, it's saying to the other dogs that sniff it, "This is mine." By lifting his leg on a human, a dog is assuming a dominant possessive role toward that person and more than likely needs some serious training.
No all male dogs, from puppy to grown up, do this.
Both male and female cats squat to urinate. Males and females need neutered and spayed (fixed) so they can't reproduce. This procedure means taking them to the vet. Male cats spray to mark their territory, and could ruin curtains, leather, shoes, clothing, couches, floors, rugs, tables, and anything you could find in your house. So if you want an inside male cat, get him neutered.
He is probably still too young most male dogs don't raise their leg to pee until they are about a year or so old
