Sometimes they become disoriented and cannot find their food. We have a 23 year old cat that has to be led to her food. She cannot see or hear well, but boy she sure can eat. When she was 19, she became terribly quiet and slept a lot. We thought she was going to die so I brought her a special treat of Chef Boyardee, she loved it. We realized that she was just terribly hungry and couldn't find her food. Eventually we began supplementing her food with a high calorie gel called Nutrical. This is available at your Vet. If the cat is relatively alert and stops eating, it can be a sign of cancer or another condition.

A cat will not eat if it's temperature goes above 105. A normal cat's temperature is 100-103.
