Why does a dog snort?

its normally because they have dust in their nose, and theyre trying to get it out. or when your in a diffrent room and the doors closed. the dog will shuv his nose into the bottom crack of the door and snort, to alert you that hes/shes there. :P

I don't know about your's but my dog snorts when he wants something, water, food, treats, up, bed, etc... and he will keep it up until he gets what he wants. They aren't snorts, they're inward sneezes. my beagle has them all the time.

If you ever look at a pug, you will see it has a pushed in face. Its nose is small and it is a challenge for them to breathe. So they will snort a lot.
