Jack Russells may shake for various reasons, including excitement, anxiety, or even cold temperatures. At 12 years old, it's also possible that your dog is experiencing age-related issues, such as Arthritis or other health concerns. If the shaking is frequent or accompanied by other symptoms, it's best to consult a veterinarian to rule out any underlying medical conditions.
Jack Russell Terriers are known to shake frequently due to their high energy levels and natural instincts. This shaking behavior can be a way for them to release excess energy, excitement, or anxiety. It is also common for small breeds like Jack Russells to shake when they are cold or feeling stressed. Regular exercise, mental stimulation, and a comfortable environment can help reduce shaking behavior in Jack Russell Terriers.

I have never known a Jack Russell which has died before 12 human years, (apart from the ones who have died of illness). My mother's old Jack Russell lived to 22 human years, so they live to very old.
Our pure bred Jack Russell, Lizzy, just turned 16 earlier this month.
They only shake when they are not warm enough.
There are many reasons why a Jack Russel may lift at their paw. The dog may be trying to shake or they may have hurt their paw somehow.
The Jack Russell is a smaller version of a Fox terrrier. A Fox terrier is derived from a wolf. I belive they just kept breeding small-legged Fox terriers until they got the Jack Russell terrier.
