When cats groom one another, biting is typically involved as a method of gently scratching one another, showing dominance, and helping to remove parasites. By doing this, a cat is showing that they accept you as a part of the social group, and are attempting to groom you.

The cat appreciates you. It could also be disciplining you if you do something you don't like. Only you can decide.

Cats have individual personalities and traits. One of mine will hit you if you stop petting him before he is ready. No claw, just a quick smack.
