This usually means that the mother is expecting kits. Mother rabbits usually do this during the time they know that their litter will arrive. If your bunny is doing this see the vet immediately and ask questions on what to do with the babies.
This sometimes signifies a false pregnancy. Not all rabbits who nest are pregnant. Sometimes they do this when they want to be bred. However, if you know your doe has had contact with a buck about 4 weeks prior, I would assume pregnancy and get a nest box in the cage right away! If a doe kindles on the cage floor, the babies could die from exposure.
The female rabbit pull out it fur in the last stages of giving birth
Yes when a female rabbit is pregnant it pulls out it fur to provide warmth for the baby rabbits
I'm sure this has something to do with building a nest. My female rabbit used to pull most of her fur of her back to make a nest when she had phantom pregnancies. It may be that this is what your rabbit is doing.

Sometimes they have false pregnancy's.
Female rabbits do not rip their fur. When they are preparing to have babies there bodies release a hormone that allows the fur to come out. In the wild, baby rabbits are born underground where it is cold and damp. They pull their fur to keep the babies warm.
Not always The female rabbit could be having a pretend pregnancy or the rabbit might be cold
My guess would be it is a female rabbit. But, if not perhaps he doesn't like where you have put his straw or he is bored. A female rabbit will do this when she builds her nest.
Generally very soon. If she is a first time mother, she may pull out her fur directly before or even after giving birth. The more seasoned the mother, the sooner she will tend to pull out her belly fur, but typically no more than two weeks before birthing. It's also common for female rabbits to have a "false pregnancy." She'll pull out her fur and make a nest, but she's not pregnant. This is one reason among many to spay your rabbits. See the link below for details.
Unfortunately, when a female mounts and then pulls fur from another rabbit, whether male or female, it is an act of dominance or an attempt to fight. Sometimes this just might be the rabbits way of saying "I'm the boss here," and it might not lead to anything, but you must be careful as this could lead to a full on attack. Also check to be sure that the male isn't the one pulling fur (and assuming mounting) or you might have an unwanted litter.
