Why don't people like zebras?

Because Zebras are wild animals and therefore they are tame. If you tried to saddle a Zebra, it would most probably buck and gallop off. Only Horses and Ponies are made to be saddled and rode.

There's a lot of effort and several generations of breeding only to end up with a striped horse. Many people however have tried over the last century either for fun or profit, but with little succes. The reason is that while some individual zebras may be sweet-tempered, as a species they are aggressive and vicious and will bite and kick with a vengeance if the spirit moves them - even the ones you thought you had domesticated. A bit like the horses of 5,000 years ago who also had a reputation for being evil little buggers. Remember that it took man some 1,000 years to more or less domesticate them and even then most of them were nothing like the sweet quiet animals trudging our riding school arenas today.

Moreover, they are smaller than horses so many adults would look a bit silly riding them, and their round rumps do not make for comfortable riding, nor do they have backs that ar strong enough to carry adult males for any long period of time. And those who did try and ride them found that once they got tired of carrying you around they would suddenly throw you, give you a kick in the head for good measure and trot off.

People that don't like zebras have an innate fear of black and white. This can be manifested as a fear of right and wrong, or a fear of the past. There is currently no treatment, but in order to help these individuals we could create zebras with yellow stripes to demonstrate that zebras are happy.

Many people look at zebras and think of them as striped horses. Their next thought is that so they should be able to be broken and riden.

Most attempts at domesticating and using zebras as draft animals have failed as they are more skittish than horses. Crossbreeding them with donkeys has produced a more docile animal.

One of the physical problems that reduce the zebras ride-ability is that it has a very stiff and strong neck. This prevents the rider from controlling it by pulling on the reins

Zebras are a very nasty animal for all of their neat appearance. Many attempts have been made to domesticate and/or tame them but it never works. There have been a few zbras trained to pull a cart (as a curiosity) , but never to be ridden. The big push for zebra domestication is that they are immune to several diseases that afflict horses in Africa.
