The Panda bear has a number of factors working against it that make it an exceedingly rare animal. First, their diet consists of bamboo and only bamboo. The trees have very low nutrition and they have poor digestive capabilities, so Pandas must consume massive quantities of the plant every day. As the trees themselves are forested and used by humans, they lose their only food source. Secondly, they only have one child at a time that they can care for (as opposed to multiple offspring that many other mammals can have). This child is completely dependent on the parent and has difficulty surviving on its own. In the rare event that the Panda gives birth to two children, one is simply abandoned to die. In summary, poor diet, dwindling environment and low birthrate all contribute to why it is hard to see Pandas.
