Over time small hemorrhoids may gradually lessen and disappear. Another possibility: If the lump is located at the 5 or 7 o'clock positions of the anus, it could be impacted anal glands. They will feel like small firm nodules. The anal glands are glands that contain a fluid to scent-mark territory and are usually emptied with bowel movements or when the dog is excited. Sometimes the glands get full of the fluid, and it thickens when not emptying correctly. That is called impaction, and they will need to be expressed to remove the fluid through the clogged gland openings. It isn't a pleasant experience due to the odor, but is something you can do yourself with proper instructions at the Vet's office.
