Why is your cat moaning?

If it is an unspayed female cat, she is in heat. If you do not want kittens and male cats are circling the house, bring her inside and keep her there. This will pass in a few days. Cats can go into heat as early as 4 months.

Some cats can be quite vocal and often it's not crying, but talking. I have a 10 year old Tabby cat and she talks to me all the time and I know she wants a treat or some extra hard food in her bowl. Cats graze so there always has to be dried food around. Sometimes they may want extra attention or want outside. If the cat gets lots of attention and fed well as well as clean water every day and this keeps up perhaps it's time to take your cat into the vets for a general checkup to be sure all is well.

they 'sing' to attract females. often having yowling contest with other males. getting your cat fixed should stop this. If your cat IS fixed and still does this, then you should visit the vet to see if something is wrong internally.

there can be many reasons. cats as they age do in a lot of cases simply become more vocal. the reason could just be that they are now finding themselves alone more often (or they at least feel that way) so they cry.

Also as a cat ages their bodies, like humans, break down a bit and they may be suffering from various ailments. its not unusual for an older cat to cry from body pains or other similar conditions. Another reason is again cats, like humans, can become senile. They will sometimes wake up and meow in the middle of the night for apparently no reason or just walk around the house mewing.
