Dogs can sit and stare at you for many reasons. The obvios one is that they want you attention the difficult part is figuring out why. The dog might just want affection, maybe it needs to go out and use the bathroom, the water bowl might be empty or as my dogs do a few minutes before feeding time. Or the dog is staring at you because he think he is alpha over you...you have to keep looking at them until they stop staring and look away and put their head down.
The reflected dog will appear to be sitting behind the mirror, at a location farther away than the actual dog.
Like many pedigreed animals, your poodle is probably just stupid as a result of generations of inbreeding. Sorry to break the news to you.
