Bad breath in a dog can be caused by many different things. The main reason of course is teeth and gum problems caused by a build up of plaque, just like in humans. Have your Veterinarian give your dog a check up and check his or her teeth. If the teeth and gums look good then it could be caused by an infection somewhere in the dog. That is why it would be best to take your dog into your Veterinarian.

I would also recommend that you purchase a toothbrush & toothpaste made for a dog and brush your dog's teeth once daily. This will help to prevent the buildup of plaque and make for a healthier mouth. It is very dangerous for an older dog to get a heavy buildup of plaque as the toxins from the dirty teeth can get into the dog's bloodstream and then into the heart. It is very important to keep your pet's teeth clean.
